Dangerous Goods Consultants

With Dangerous Goods there are no second chances

When dealing with dangerous goods, navigating the applicable legislation, safety guidelines, standards and codes of practice can be a daunting task. Our team of highly qualified engineers has an in-depth knowledge of safe handling techniques, storage and system design.

We provide technical advice on all aspects and applications of state and national legislation. So whether it's trouble-shooting vapour and control systems or running feasibility studies across all kinds of fuel and chemical depots and trade waste systems, safety is covered from every angle.

A National Approach
The National Dangerous Goods Framework commenced by the declaration of national standard and a national code of practice by the National Occupational Health and Safety Commission (NOHSC) in 2001. These documents will form the basis of a uniform legislative framework for the storage and handling of dangerous goods in each State and Territory. The provisions of the National Standard have been adopted in Victoria (2000), Queensland (2001) and NSW (2005) and will be adopted in other States and Territories in the near future.

The framework acknowledges the concept of national consistency in the management of Occupational Health and Safety and is the move to a performance based structure in the development of the standard which provides the employer/occupier with the flexibility to develop a customised management system to meet the standard and at the same time to meet the needs of the individual workplace.

MCE has successfully worked with clients from all states in achieving flexible, safe and compliant outcomes in terms of OHS systems and dangerous goods management.

Our dangerous goods consultants can provide the following services:
  • Legislative compliance – including storage and handling specification, assessment and documentation. MCE's engineers are recognised as "competent persons" in the area of certification of dangerous goods storage facilities and work with authorities such as the Department of Infrastructure Planning and Natural Resources NSW, Local Council, the Department of Environment and Conservation(formally the EPA)and various Water Authorities.
  • Concept design and specification - review and assessment of dangerous goods storage and handling options.
  • Emergency planning – covering quality assurance, fire studies, occupational health and safety (OH&S) and emergency plans incorporating dangerous goods.
